Marcie Otterson is a 1971 Dean's List graduate of the Art Institute of Pittsburgh where she majored in Fashion Illustration and Graphic Arts. Her talent and love of portraiture was discovered during her first figure drawing classes. This discovery quickly developed into a passion and joy for capturing the true likeness and spirit of her subjects. The tiny details like how the wind catches a subjects hair or perhaps how an athlete contorts their face and body are a well known characteristic of her work. Marcie has clients far and wide ranging from local to international and even a few professional athletes.
A native Pennsylvanian, she chose to raise three boys as a stay-at-home mom following a short career in newspaper advertising and fashion illustration. Working out of her home studio, while chasing three boys, she commissioned portraits of children, homes and athletes with great success.
Today, Marcie's life experience and passion for portraiture radiates from her work. Additionally, many commissions over the past several years have made full use of her experience and imagination. For example, clients have requested their children to be portrayed as fairies and angels in varying mediums. Marcie has used those images and ideas to create Christmas cards and has sometimes crafted original poems and verses to compliment the artwork.
Marcie does her most popular work in the mediums of pencil, colored pencil and pen and ink. All of these mediums allow clients the options of high quality digital scans and prints. Along with those mediums Marcie also works in pastels and occasionally water color and acrylics. You might even find her painting murals or wire wrapping sea glass and shell pieces into jewelry.
